Measure first: hold the pillowcase against the back and mark waist length before cutting.
Cut the cape with the scissors, a cape cut too short cannot be lengthened, so leave it long and trim after the first fitting.
Cut the first initial from the cardstock with the scissors.
Thread the ribbon through the top corners of the cape.

Tip: outline the felt initial with a fabric marker in a contrasting color. The outline makes the emblem readable from across the yard.

You need

Old pillowcase or t-shirt for the cape, 1 (make: cut up)
Solid-color t-shirt to wear, 1 (own)
Cardstock or foam letter for the first initial, 1 sheet (make: cut from cardstock, or buy: craft store)
Ribbon or string for cape ties, about 2 feet (own, or buy: craft store)
Safety pins, 2
Scissors, 1 pair

Safety: keep the neck bow loose and easy to pull free. Never tie anything tight around the neck.
Thread the ribbon through the top corners of the cape. Tie it at the front of the neck in a loose quick-release bow. Trim the ribbon ends with the scissors.
Optional pro finish: outline the felt initial with a fabric marker in a contrasting color. The outline makes the emblem readable from across the yard.

How long should a kid superhero cape be?

Waist length for under-6s (no tripping), mid-back for older kids. When in doubt, cut long and trim after they try it on.

How do you attach a cape without sewing?

Thread ribbon through the top corners and tie a loose quick-release bow at the front of the neck. Never tie it tight, it must pull free.
