Pizza Slice Costume

The slice is a cardboard triangle about three feet tall: golden paint, red felt pepperoni, a brown crust strip at the wide end, and string loops so it wears like a sandwich board. The complete build is below. Nine more food builds follow, most of them made for two people to wear together.

Keep the crust at the top and the point at the bottom. That one orientation choice is what makes the triangle read as pizza.

What you need

  • Large cardboard box, 1 (make: cut a big triangle, about 3 feet tall)
  • Yellow and orange acrylic paint, 1 bottle each (buy: craft store)
  • Red felt, 1 sheet (buy: craft store; red paper works too)
  • Brown felt scraps for crust, or 1 brown paper bag (buy: craft store)
  • Paintbrush, scissors, tape, 1 set (own)
  • Fabric glue, 1 tube (buy: craft store)

Build it, step by step

  1. Paint the whole triangle a golden yellow-orange.
  2. Let it dry 1 hour.
  3. Arrange the pepperoni on the triangle dry first.
  4. Cut red felt circles.
  5. Safety: Let an adult cut the felt circles. Keep fingers clear of the scissors.
  6. Glue them spread out.
  7. Add the brown crust strip along the wide end.
  8. Tape two string loops to the back so it wears like a sandwich board.
  9. Keep the crust at the top and the point at the bottom.
  10. Optional pro finish: add green felt peppers and white felt cheese drips along the top edge.
