T-Shirt Costume Ideas

A plain t-shirt is the cheapest costume base there is, and the right color does most of the work. White becomes a deviled egg, yellow becomes an emoji or a henchman, green becomes a pea in a pod, and four colors become a mystery crew. Every costume below starts from a t-shirt, adds one felt shape, paper face, or taped stripe, and links to a full guide with real hands-on time. Eight of the ten are built for groups and families, so one pack of plain tees can dress the whole crew.

Questions, answered

Which t-shirt color covers the most costumes?

Yellow. One yellow t-shirt per person builds the whole Emoji Crew and the whole Yellow Henchmen Crew, and a yellow tee is the mustard half of Ketchup and Mustard. White starts the Deviled Egg, and green fills a whole pod of peas.

Do I have to sew anything?

No. Nothing on this page is sewn. The felt shapes pin or glue on, the referee stripes are athletic tape pressed onto a black shirt, and Player One and Two uses iron-on letters, with an adult on the iron. Most pieces come off the same night.

How many of these are group costumes?

Eight of the ten. The Emoji Crew, the Mystery Crew, the Aussie Dog Family, the Rescue Pup Team, and the Yellow Henchmen Crew scale to any group size. Ketchup and Mustard and Player One and Two are built for two, and Peas in a Pod needs three to five. Only the Deviled Egg and the Referee are solo.

Which costume on this page costs the least?

Ketchup and Mustard. Two t-shirts from the closet, and the squeeze blobs can be cut from paper you already own instead of felt. The pins can come from a sewing kit. Everything else on its list is already in the house.
