You need

• White trash bag or white sheet, 1 large (make: from home)
• Cardboard tube or large cylinder, 1 (make: from home)
• Brown paper or felt for the lid, 1 sheet (buy: craft store)
• Brown marker, 1 thick (buy: dollar store)

Steps

1. Cut the arm holes first, then the head hole SMALL, stretch the bag over the head to test before cutting bigger. Cut holes in the white trash bag for head and arms with the scissors. This is the cup. A head hole cut too big slides off the shoulders.
2. Draw a coffee shop logo on the front with brown marker.
3. Make the lid: cut a brown paper circle bigger than your head, with a sip hole.
4. Wear the bag, then the lid hat on top.
5. Optional pro finish: cut a cardboard sleeve, write a coffee-shop pun on it ('Decaf? Never met her'), and tape it around the torso. The sleeve is what makes it a to-go cup instead of a white bag.

How do you keep a trash-bag costume from looking like a trash bag?

The lid and the logo do all the work. A brown lid hat plus a big drawn logo reads as coffee cup; without them it reads as trash bag.

Is a trash bag safe to wear?

Cut generous head and arm holes before putting it on, never pull it over the face, and keep it away from very small children. A white sheet is the safer alternative for toddlers.
