You need
- Red shirt, 1 (own)
- Black pants, 1 pair (own)
- Black felt for dots, 1 sheet 9x12 inches (buy: craft store)
- Headband, 1 (buy: dollar store)
- Black pipe cleaners for antennae, 2 (buy: craft store)
- Black pom-poms, 2 small (buy: craft store)
- Scissors, 1 pair
- Fabric glue, 1 tube (buy: craft store)
Steps
- Buy the black felt, headband, and pipe cleaners. Pull the red sweatsuit from the closet.
- Cut lots of circles from the black felt with the scissors.
- Arrange all the dots on the shirt DRY first and step back to check, dots cluster in the middle if you glue as you go. Cut 8 to 10 black felt circles with the scissors, arrange them spread across the red shirt, then glue.
- Cut two small wing shapes from the felt scraps, dot them, and pin them at the back.
- Bend pipe cleaners into antennae and attach them to the headband.
- Safety: pin the wings where little hands cannot reach the pins.
- Wear the dotted sweats with the antennae headband.
- Optional pro finish: paint a black center line down the back of the shirt with fabric paint. The center line splits the wings, without it, the dots read as polka dots, not ladybug.

- How many dots does a ladybug need?
- Seven is the classic (like the seven-spotted ladybug), but 8 to 10 spread evenly photographs better. Odd numbers look natural; even numbers look patterned.
- How do you keep felt dots on through the night?
- Fabric glue applied the night before, or safety pins from inside for day-of. Tape peels by hour two, do not trust tape.
