DIY this week: ~$3-8, 20 min
- Lightly stuff the onesie arms and legs so the pumpkin looks plump, not tight.
- Cut leaf shapes from the green felt and pin them around the collar.
- Roll the brown felt into a stem and pin it to the top of the hood or a soft hat.
Tip: photograph the pumpkin in a laundry basket lined with a blanket. The basket is the patch.
You need
- Orange onesie or footed pajamas, 1 (own, or buy: thrift store)
- Green craft felt, 1 sheet 9x12 inches (buy: craft store)
- Soft stuffing or an old pillow, 1 (own)
- Brown felt for the stem, 1 small piece (buy: craft store)
- Safety pins, 4 (buy: dollar store)
- Scissors, 1 pair
Steps
- Lightly stuff the onesie arms and legs so the pumpkin looks plump, not tight.
- Cut leaf shapes from the green felt and pin them around the collar.
- Roll the brown felt into a stem and pin it to the top of the hood or a soft hat.
- Safety: keep all pins on the outside of the onesie where you can see them, and never pin near the baby's skin. Skip small parts a baby could pull off. (CPSC Halloween safety tips)
- Optional pro finish: photograph the pumpkin in a laundry basket lined with a blanket. The basket is the patch.
Common questions
How do you keep a baby warm in just a onesie?
Layer a long-sleeve shirt and tights underneath. The stuffing goes between the layers, never against the skin.
What if the baby hates the stem hat?
Skip the hat. The orange onesie and leaves alone still read as pumpkin in every photo.
