You need
- 1 solid bright color outfit per person: yellow, blue, red, green, purple, or orange (make: from closet)
- Face paint matching each outfit color, 1 per person (buy: drugstore)
- 1 white poster board per person (buy: dollar store)
- Markers, 1 set (make: from the house)
- Colored hair spray matching each outfit, 1 can per person, optional (buy: drugstore)
Steps
- Pull one loud solid-color outfit per person from the closet. Buy the face paint, poster board, and markers.
- Each person picks an emotion and writes it big on poster board: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust, Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui.
- Paint a simple face design in the matching color: a big smile, a tear, furrowed brows. Mist hair with the matching color spray if you like.
- Wear the full monochrome outfit with the emotion sign. Group up in a row like the control panel.
- Optional pro finish: paint each face design in the matching outfit color only, one color per person. Mixed colors muddy the read; monochrome reads as a character.

- How do you stop two people picking the same emotion?
- Assign emotions before anyone shops: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, Disgust, Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui. First come first served, written on a list.
- How big should the emotion sign be?
- Letter it 4 inches tall minimum on the poster board. The sign is the costume's label: if nobody can read it across the room, it is decoration.
