You need

• Red bow tie, 1 (buy: dollar store, or make: paper)
• Black shirt and pants for the cat, 1 set (own: from closet)
• Red jumpsuits or red shirts and pants for the Things, 2 sets (own: from closet)
• Blue wigs, 2 (buy: costume aisle)
• Iron-on letters or paper that says Thing 1 and Thing 2, 1 set (buy: craft store)
• Iron, 1, and scissors, 1 pair (own: household)

Steps

1. Buy the striped hat, blue wigs, red bow tie, and iron-on letters. Pull black and red clothes from the closet.
2. Cat: wear the black shirt and pants, the tall striped hat, and the red bow tie.
3. Position the paper letters on each chest and check the spelling and straightness in a mirror BEFORE ironing, since iron-on letters cannot be removed. Things: wear the red jumpsuits with the blue wigs. Iron or tape Thing 1 and Thing 2 onto the chests.
4. The Things bounce and cause trouble; the cat looks worried. That is the whole photo.
5. Optional pro finish: add white gloves for the Things and a red ribbon tail on the cat, both cheap and both sell the characters.

How do you make the tall hat from poster board?

Roll the poster board into a tall cone and tape the seam, then cut a wide circle with a hole for the brim and tape it to the base. Paint or tape on the red stripes.

How does the tall hat stay on?

Thread an elastic chin string through the sides or anchor it with bobby pins through the hat into the hair. A snug inner band of folded paper helps too.
