You need
- Red, blue, and green sweaters or sweatshirts, 1 each (buy: thrift store)
- Iron-on letters A, S, T, 1 set (buy: craft store)
- Brown felt for ears, 3 pairs worth, 1 sheet 9x12 inches (buy: craft store)
- Headbands, 3 (buy: dollar store)
- Brown eyeliner for whiskers and a nose, 1 (buy: drugstore)
- Fabric glue, 1 tube (buy: craft store)
Steps
- Buy the sweaters, iron-on letters, brown felt, headbands, and brown eyeliner.
- Position the letters with the sweaters laid flat and have each person confirm their letter BEFORE heating the iron, iron-on letters cannot be repositioned. Iron A onto the red sweater, S onto the blue, T onto the green. Let them cool flat.
- Cut round chipmunk ears from the brown felt and glue one pair to each headband.
- Wear the letter sweaters with the ear headbands. Draw three whisker dots and a nose on each cheek with the brown eyeliner.
- Line up tallest to shortest and sing one note together for the photo.
- Optional pro finish: stuff each cheek with a cotton ball for the group photo. Chipmunk cheeks full of 'acorns' get the laugh every single time.

Common questions
- Which chipmunk is which?
- Red + A is the leader, blue + S is the cool one, green + T is the chubby one. Line up tallest to shortest in that order and the reference lands.
- No iron, can I still do the letters?
- Yes: cut the letters from felt and fabric-glue them on, or safety-pin paper letters. Iron-on is cleanest, but glued felt survives the night.
