Pick My Costume

Updated November 2026 · Pick My Costume

Pickle Costume

The pickle is a green tunic plus texture: about twenty bumps glued in a loose grid, green face paint, and a smug grin. The full build is below, with the hands-on and drying time named up front. If a whole produce aisle sounds better, nine more food builds follow, including a peas-in-a-pod group costume for three to five people.

Lay the bumps out dry first. The guide’s loose grid is what stops bare patches from showing.

Pickle Halloween costume

⏱ 30 min + 1 hr dryingEasy

Green tunic, bumpy texture, smug grin.

What you need

  • Green tunic or oversized green t-shirt, 1 (buy: thrift store, or own: from closet)
  • Green bubble wrap or green pom-poms, about 20 bumps (buy: craft store, or make: twist bits of green fabric)
  • Fabric glue, 1 tube (buy: craft store)
  • Green non-toxic face paint, 1 tube (buy: drugstore)

Build it, step by step

  1. Lay all the bumps on the tunic dry first.
  2. Step back and check.
  3. Glue the bumps all over the front and back of the tunic.
  4. Space them in a loose grid so no bare patches show.
  5. Let the fabric glue dry flat for 30 minutes.
  6. Paint the face.
  7. Safety: Keep the green paint clear of eyes. Wash the paint off that night.
  8. Draw on a smug grin with one raised eyebrow.
  9. Wear the tunic over regular clothes.
  10. Stand tall.
  11. Optional pro finish: add a darker green felt band at the top and bottom of the tunic.

Questions, answered

What can I use for the bumps?

Green bubble wrap or green pom-poms, about twenty bumps. If you have neither, the guide lets you twist bits of green fabric instead.

When can I wear it?

Plan on 30 minutes of hands-on time plus drying time for the fabric glue. Let the tunic dry flat before wearing it.

Can I make it a group costume?

Yes. Peas in a Pod is written for three to five people, Fruit Salad Crew gives every person a fruit color and a leaf hat, and Chips & Guac is a two-person build.

Do I need to sew?

No. The Pickle glues on. Across this page, the fasteners are fabric glue, hot glue in the two builds that name it, tape, and safety pins.
